7 girls of SF

1.The running census claim that San Francisco contains exactly seven women, all of whom you have met, all of whom are at this party. Not literally true; directionally, hard to argue with.

She just moved here, so the 7 girls of SF are briefly 8. The census will correct itself by winter.

01Origin

San Francisco's tech-skewed gender ratio has been a datapoint for a decade; the meme compresses the demographics into a census of seven. The joke works because the experience is real: every mixer, demo day, and group-house party appears to be attended by the same small cast of women, who all know each other, because at that sample size they have to.

The canonical artifact is Jess Lozano Schmitt's post "hung out with all 7 girls in sf," photo attached. The number is load-bearing: small enough to be absurd, large enough to feel plausible at a Tuesday night AI event. New arrivals are processed as amendments to the census; the count stays seven.

It is the demographic backdrop for half the compendium's social entries: the YC-a16z singles mixer's 45-women-to-35-men ratio was celebrated as a civic miracle, Corgi allegedly employs several of the seven, and single until Series B is easier to commit to when the denominator is seven.
