YC–a16z singles mixer

1.A singles mixer for YC founders and a16z investors. Proposed as a bit, then inevitable: the obvious event for a city where everyone is single until Series B.

They met at the YC–a16z singles mixer. He was raising; so was she. It's a party round now.

01Origin

Proposed by Mehul Agarwal, a San Francisco founder, as a bit on X: if founders are single until Series B, then the market will, eventually, provide liquidity - and what is a singles mixer between YC and a16z if not a matching marketplace with unusually good unit economics on both sides?

The joke lands because SF social life already runs on deal-flow mechanics: demo days double as date nights, coffee chats have term sheets, and every relationship is quietly diligenced. The mixer merely removes the plausible deniability.

The field work has since produced an invite: a "YC x A16z Speedrun Singles Mixer" flyer promising a curated evening of speedy connections for founders, builders, and VCs, complete with laurel wreaths and a sprinting hoplite. Whether the event is real, a bit, or (most likely) both simultaneously is exactly the point. Adjacent phenomena: Corgi girls, ABG CMO.
