Product Mommy
1.A senior woman in product management whose terrifying competence, maternal authority, and occasional "good job" causes software engineers to simp uncontrollably.
The staff engineers pretend to hate roadmap review, but one good job from product mommy and every ticket ships before lunch.
01Origin
The earliest clear instance located is a July 28, 2022 X thread by the pseudonymous Pajeet Bateman. The thread explicitly expanded PM as "Product Mommy" and portrayed software engineers as simultaneously resenting, desiring, and seeking maternal praise from an assertive female product manager.
ATW, posting as @autistrophywife, helped formalize and popularize the archetype through tech memes and an Urban Dictionary definition dated October 24, 2023. The phrase subsequently appeared in engineer memes about Jira and sprint management, and a July 16, 2025 San Francisco Standard profile described ATW as best known for her product mommy memes.
02Notable sightings
Pajeet Bateman · @pajeetbatemanA satirical thread argues that engineers have a psychosexual relationship with their PM, expands PM as Product Mommy, and says her maternal praise keeps individual contributors obedient.
