"Cooked" arrived from gaming and Gen Z slang, where "we're cooked" means doomed and "let him cook" means the opposite, a pair of idioms that share one kitchen and total ambiguity. SF adopted the doomed sense and industrialized it: the template "[SF thing] is cooked" now processes every civic complaint, from the gender ratio to the one-bedroom that just listed at $4,200 to the seed round that took a weekend.

The template's power is its range. "Dating in SF is cooked" compresses the whole seven-girls census into three words. "Housing is cooked" is both a market report and a moral position. "Hiring is cooked" means either that nobody can find engineers or that engineers can find nothing, depending on who is posting. The word does no analysis and needs none; it is a verdict with the reasoning left as an exercise.

In the local escalation ladder it sits one rung below nuke SF: cooked is the diagnosis, the nuke is the treatment plan. Its formal register is directionally very bad, which, as the timeline observed, is just a funny way of saying ur cooked. And crucially, the verdict never implies leaving: SF is cooked, and everyone saying so just signed another lease.
