VC girlfriend

1.A girlfriend who works in venture, recruited with a pitch deck. Dinner gets expensed as diligence, and if it doesn't work out, it still generated deal flow.

She asked what he was looking for in a partner, and he said, "Ideally a lead check." She said she only does follow-ons.

01Origin

The term went viral on September 26, 2026, when founder Mehul Agarwal posted that he was "looking for a VC girlfriend" and laid out a nine-point investment memo for why it was a win-win: she backchannels his Series A, he scouts founders for her before they reach YC or a16z, restaurants get expensed as "diligence," and her fund covers the coffee chats. The terms sheet closed with "23+ years old, seed and above, serious inquiries only," a photo at the Golden Gate with a blurred-out "you?", and the insistence that it was "again, not a joke." It did roughly 620,000 views, which is more than most Series A announcements.

The replies split between people flaming him and people admitting they had seen the exact same pitch from founders on Hinge. The genre had been building for years: single until series b made the fundraise a precondition for dating, the yc a16z singles mixer put founders and investors in the same room, and the VC girlfriend simply merged the two pipelines into one. A LinkedIn riff seeking a "VC boyfriend" followed within weeks, confirming the format is now a template. Due diligence on the relationship is ongoing.
