Tokenmaxxing

1.Deliberately burning as many AI tokens as possible to look productive, because usage dashboards and internal leaderboards became the new way to keep score.

He's not shipping faster, he's tokenmaxxing: forty agents, one PR, a bill like a Series A.

01Origin

Named in early-to-mid 2026, as agentic coding turned token consumption into a visible, billable number and the number immediately became a status game. Internal token leaderboards reportedly appeared at major tech firms, ranking engineers by consumption, with the top burners collecting trophies and bragging rights. Once a metric like that exists, Goodhart's law does the rest: people started running up usage to look prolific.

The "-maxxing" suffix does its usual work (see uggmaxxing for the lineage), but the joke has a real critique inside it: tokens measure how much the model did, not how much of it mattered. The tokenmaxxer's ten parallel agents rewriting the same file all night are the compute-era version of commit-count padding, except now the padding costs money and everyone can see it.

Its natural companion is claude pilled: the pill is the conversion, tokenmaxxing is the tolerance. The GPU-poor watch the leaderboard from a distance, doing more with less and saying so.
