Wasian
1.A person of mixed White and Asian heritage. The portmanteau is commonly used as a casual description or self-identifier, especially online.
The Dolores Park meetup looked less like a niche identity event than an all-hands for every Wasian product manager in the Bay.
01Origin
Wasian combines White and Asian. No individual coiner is known. Urban Dictionary entries used it in 2003 both for people of mixed White and Asian ancestry and, in a now largely obsolete sense, for White people who performed stereotypical Asian fandom or style. ([urbandictionary.com](https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?page=4&term=Wasian&utm_source=openai))
The identity sense expanded through youth social media and was popularized by the late-2019 #WasianCheck format. Niko Katsuyoshi created the first prominent TikTok sound, which had been reused nearly 10,000 times by November 2021. The term received another visibility surge in 2026 through celebrity memes, the imagined Republic of Wasia, and gatherings including a May 9 meetup at San Francisco's Mission Dolores Park.
